I Hate Being Late

As much as I may hate it though, I am extremely glad that peoples' attitudes toward me are apparently more laid-back than they are toward other people. What I mean is that Trevor was written up not too long ago for being late for one of his shifts, but when I walked in almost 20 minutes late yesterday, Cheryl asked what time I was supposed to start, I responded, and Gabby laughed. Oh, and Manoah also noted that it wasn't like they'd been busy or anything, and indeed they hadn't, but that could've been worse. I was already pissed off with myself over that, and with something else that was going on at home that I'll get to in a bit, so to have been written up as well would've been too much - the straw that breaks the camel's back, as it were, except that I'm not a camel. Then, Manoah asked what position I wanted to be on after 8, and I chose drive through not so I wouldn't have to take care of line a second night in a row, but so I could have a full shift to myself. I have seriously been underestimating (or perhaps not even noticing) the vast difference that can make. Maybe it's partly that drive through is easier as well, but it's a great deal more relaxing to be able to keep to oneself in an isolated corner of the building. I dare say I even enjoyed washing the piles upon piles of dishes last night, partly because the new sprayer attached to the sink is indeed a joy to use, and I actually feel more or less ready for tonight, instead of dreading the fact that I still have to work another close before getting a night off. As for how I came to be late last night, around 6:20 I started to feel the sneaking suspicion that maybe I was supposed to start an hour early, but since I couldn't remember for sure, reasoned that if I was, Manoah would call to remind me, since he did that last time. I was wrong, and as I reasoned to myself on the way home, making that one assumption was my mistake, moreso because even if he had tried to call, he wouldn't have been able to get through, because Adam was on the phone talking to Trish. That also caused a problem with the internet, but I didn't realize it at first, which was the thing at home I was still angry about at work.

It stopped working around 6:00, so I waited for a bit, hoping the problem would automatically correct itself as before, but when it didn't, I ended up going downstairs and trying to figure things out, which kept me until 10 minutes after 7, making being late for work worse than it would've been before. I couldn't seem to find a solution though, because while it connected briefly from time to time, the connection never stayed, and running the diagnostic when it stopped working again simply said to check the phone line connection, which I did time and time again, to no avail. Eventually I asked Dad the new phone he hooked up in the kitchen yesterday morning could have anything to do with it, but that wouldn't make sense, because it had been connected since the morning, and the internet didn't stop working until the evening. I was stumped until he said the line might be overloaded or something, which made reasonable sense what with Adam being on the phone at the time, so I decided to wait and see if it was still not working when I got home later that night, and lo and behold, it was properly functioning again. In addition, the phone Adam was using was actually put back on the receiver (normally he just lazily leaves it up in his room - apparently it's too much of an inconvenience to take it back downstairs afterward), and the other phone Dad had previously hooked up was unplugged, and on the floor by the basement door. Annoying? Yes, but the worst part of it is that the only reason it happened was because of Adam's laziness. Seriously, if he hung up the phone after using it, or even just put it on the laundry hamper in the upstairs hallway so Dad or I could hang it up, there would be no problems, but because he can't be bothered to do that (or couldn't), the new phone was connected, thus creating the problem. I can't really be annoyed with Dad, but Adam needs to just stop it. The two of them had another bit of a tiff just now as well. From what I heard out my window up here in my room, Adam had opened the window in the living room because it was too hot, meanwhile the furnace is on, which is a waste. And I am a hypocrite for having my window open, yes, but I do year round, and it hasn't seemed to be an issue yet.

Those things aside though, I have much other work to do before leaving for work proper tonight: copying season 1 of Destination: Truth to my external hard drive and renaming the episodes, then tagging soundtracks for several DJMAX Portable games (Hot Tunes, Clazziquai Edition, and the 3rd PSP game) and putting those on my PSP, then hopefully playing some of the actual game afterward, and... yeah. I should've started last night, but now is as good a time as any. I think three hours will be enough~
