Lazy People

OMFG, WORST SHIFT EVER. Second only to that Thursday night a while ago where we had nonstop cars. Bleh. Here's what happened...

I started at 8, so I walked in, went to look at the schedule, then started looking for stuff that needed to be done. Fry dump was first on the list, so I worked on getting that cleaned up, stuck the cardboard in it, and was done. I went up on line after that to check if they needed any help, and they did, so I expedited (wrapped, bagged, and handed out) the orders, and after a bit of that, Manoah said something about he was going to go back and do the dishes, and asked me to start bagging line. That took till about 9 with all the orders we were getting.

Once that was done, I had to get a headset on, because I was getting put on drive through. Slight discourse here. I can't stand working drive through. It's quite possibly the worst position in the store. However, whenever it's me and a couple other people that've been there for a while working, I always get stuck on it. I know how to steam / stuff / whatever else as well as the next person, so it really doesn't make sense.

As well, the store was a mess. Seriously. I wanted to work on getting it cleaned up, but I couldn't because cars kept coming. Oh sure, you might say that the other people working could get things cleaned up, but it seems whenever things calmed down, and we didn't have any orders, they'd all be out smoking. I've heard all sorts of excuses as to why that's necessary (you'd have to be a smoker to understand what's it's like for us; it just... calms me down, and such), and I know I'm not the only one to be getting tired of it, 'cause I got wind of a scuffle going on because of that a while ago, and while I don't know exactly what went on, I know the smokers were pretty angry at the people who were complaining though.

In my opinion, if you smoke, it's your own problem. You do not need to go out for one every ten minutes. It's your own fault you got addicted to the damn things. Don't expect the rest of us to feel sorry and make special exceptions for you because of that.

Seriously, I was washing dishes while they were out smoking. I was taking and making orders. I was getting carryover ready for the end of the night, all while they were outside. *sigh* What can be done though?

I really don't mind them going out to smoke every so often (say every hour or so), but every single time things calm down is getting a bit carried away.

Anyways, things went relatively smoothly until about 12 midnight, at which point I asked Manoah if he'd take over drive though, and I'd do line. He agreed to do that several times in the past, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. He said he couldn't. Something about Ange (it was her second close as a manager tonight) said no, and that she'd give him a write up if he did. I don't know for sure or not, but it really seemed like a lame attempt at staying away from drive though. I know nobody likes doing it, but splitting up the shift between two people makes a hell of a lot more sense to me than making everyone stay where they are for the entire night.

So yeah. 1:00 rolls around, so I asked Manoah if he thought we should start doing cold line, and he said yes, so I grabbed the pans and lids and everything else I needed. Once again, the people that were on line (namely Manoah himself) are the ones that are supposed to do line at the end of the night, but of course, he was doing something else. I'm sure you can guess what.

Oh, and it can't hurt to mention that someone else had come in to help, and they were out cleaning dining room. That's supposed to be done by 1:00 at latest, but tonight, it was after that before it got started!

The rest of the night after that was pretty slow, and we were there until 3 cleaning up, but given how much had to be done, it's a surprise we got out when we did.

In all though, here's what I think killed the shift:

  • Bad crew. Everyone that was closing (aside from me) went out to smoke whenever they got the chance. Also, while they weren't out smoking, they seemed more content to just stand around rather than find something to do and do it.
  • What we were left with. This is really nothing new, I should mention. The supper crew has a bad habit of not doing anything in the way of cleaning / prepping for the night people, and they tend to leave just as soon as the night crew arrives.
  • Stupid people in drive through. I have here a receipt to give an example of what I mean. Here's my attempted copy of it

Yeah. Genius paid for a 14.00 order with a hundred dollar bill. It checked out under the UV light though, so I had to take it. Then he had the nerve to come back after saying that he didn't get his combo 3. Do you see one there? I don't either. Now that I think about it though, I think that's what his 3 soft tacos were supposed to be. He very well might've said "number 3 soft tacos", and I simply didn't hear him say "number". That's not the worst we've ever had though.

Hell, while I'm at it, here's a couple more huge orders we got while ago. Just something to show you just what sort of stuff crazy people get.

Oh dear. Just ran the spell check, and for "CRCHWRAP", it suggested "GRASSHOPPER" XD

Anyways, enough of my complaints about work. I need to decide what I'm going to do tomorrow. I haven't been in to Heart and Stroke all week, but I already plan on going grocery shopping tomorrow, so I won't be able to then. I just got paid ($535 and some odd cents), so I want to withdrawal some money to get the player's guide for Okami (I still have the receipt, so I may be able to get the discount), and possibly Shadow Hearts: Covenant, if EB Games has it. I also want to get a box of cereal, although I don't know what kind to get. I've already had that Reeses Pieces cereal, the Nesquik stuff, and a box of Fruit Loops, so I'll have to see what's available. It's rather pitiful that, in order to get myself to eat cereal, I have to buy it myself.

Anyways, it's ten to five right now, so I think I'm going to do a bit more on here, then head to bed. That's all I plan on writing for now though.
