Trying to Stump Myself

Now I see there might be another side to it. Thought of a rather curious question at work last night that Manoah gave a simple answer to, which actually disappointed me because I thought it was a trick question, and / or that the answer would have some unusual bit of logic to it. The question? What color is a mirror when that isn't reflecting anything? He said clear, and I suppose that could be, as I do know that if you look at one from the side you can see that the edge is transparent, but I still can't help thinking the front would be different. Either that or a mirror is simply a piece of glass with a nonreflective backing stuck to it, but I haven't the interest to check Wikipedia and find out for sure.

Also in the "random things on my mind" category, I need zucchini. Going to Sobeys after work tonight would've been the easiest method of getting some, but the sidewalks were far too icy, causing me to walk in tiny steps but at the same speed I go normally, thus my legs hurt quite a bit when I eventually walked up to the house. I could always go there tomorrow, but probably not until Tuesday in reality, because I have the two days after it off this week. As for what I need such an item for, bread. Many, many years ago (let's say fifteen), Mom used to make it, with chocolate chips, and while we didn't enjoy it terribly then (bread with a vegetable in it?), it'll be fun seeing her reaction when she realizes I'm making some <3 Although there is one caveat, being that the recipe calls for it to be baked in the oven, but in all honesty, I'm getting rather tired of dragging by bread maker downstairs once each week for something that doesn't last even 24 hours. Recipes that require a certain quantity of dough? Sure, I'll use it for those, but there's much more available when I don't have to rely on it to to do the rest of the work. Besides, who says making things needs to be limited to bread-like items? I have at least 50 recipes bookmarked here from StumbleUpon, most of which are desserts (cakes, squares, cookies, etc.), and I'd definitely like to start into those soon :3

Next, some things from work.

Not so much things as how tonight went, but at any rate, it was quite fun for a supper shift. The deployment sheet had me listed as being on front cash, but before I had a chance to count my till, Melissa asked if I'd take over making food for her, because she and Sheila needed to talk about something. No fuss from me, because I didn't want to be on front cash to begin with (I loathe trying to close the dining room when there's a chance customers will come in and mess it up again), so they went off and talked while I quickly had an order for ten tacos come up. Yeah. Nowhere near the 40 from last night, but it was a fun way to start the night. Eventually Melissa came back though, so I told her she could take over again once I'd finished my order, but kept steaming after that because she was doing something at front cash. After only ~30 seconds of I was told that she'd decided to keep me on line, to have "somebody new to torture". Not sure what happened to that, because the only remotely brusque thing she said after that was telling me to take drive through orders down there while it was busy to avoid confusion.

So we did that, just the two of us, until 7:30 or so, which was fun as I've already said. Fun, that is, for me and most likely her, but not for Sheila, because she ended up taking over at front cash for me, leaving her secondary task as helping Bryan with prep. And Melissa did not hesitate to chew her out about anything she was doing wrong. From an objective standpoint, Melissa could've been a bit more patient, but Sheila is also the AGM, so she should know better than to be doing some of the things Melissa caught her with this afternoon. Mind you it was quite funny at the same time, but anyways, yeah. Also, Sheila, you're a grown woman. If you really take such offense to what Melissa is saying, tell her (exclamation point)! There's no reason she should be a bully towards you, and if I was in your place, I'd have spoken to her long ago about what I felt was and was not reasonable. It was obvious Sheila was getting stressed out too, because when Steve came in, well after Melissa had gone home, she told him it had been "absolute hell". No, it hadn't. The worst we experienced on line was ~8 minute orders for all of two or three, then a couple instances of giving too much food out with an order. I was responsible for one, and Kim the other, but not a word was said about that aside from "Make sure you're checking your orders".

Anyways, after all that, once the usual closing shift feeling settled in, things remained about as fun, because Orlando would not stop dropping things so I kept giving him a hard time (in jest), and pretty much everything normal for that time of night got caught up well before midnight, so I wasn't in a rush to get stuff done before leaving. Just before doing so I noticed something interesting, however. Not a new point of interest by far, but to move on from this building up, three of us were on line, and I was steaming. It was fun and almost satisfying in a way to make the tacos or whatever for an order, slide them down to Steve for lettuce and / or cheese and / or tomatoes, etc., then on to Orlando to be wrapped. Something about "I made the beginnings of those". I can recall having the same sort of feeling back in public school, during gym when we were playing hockey or some other sport. When the ball eventually found its way to me and I hit it off somewhere, I found myself thinking "What's happening now is because of what I did". Kind of like a feeling of importance, but in a somewhat unusual way.

Oh, and finally, because it fits in with the work theme, on my way there last night, some guy across the street literally was hollering at me, but all I heard was something about a "dog tail". I didn't so much as look up, instead pushing my earphones in (think of it was a gesture of "I'm listening to music, not you. See?"), but yeah. Chase me around if you must, because the best you're going to get is a look not unlike that of those found in the comments here.

I suppose some effort should be made to get to bed at a decent time as well tonight though, because I had a far better sleep yesterday, but then had to wake up early for work, and now that I don't have to be there until 8 for my next shift, maybe I can repeat that without setting my alarm clock. The best part about it is all I changed was taking the pillows out of my other window. Maybe that seems counter-productive, because then more sunlight would come in and interrupt my sleep, but it actually allows cool air to blow through, which is quite nice. Also, I can hear somebody snoring, so I'm off to investigate who it is. Then I also have to fill my water bottles and take garbage down to the basement and put dishes in the kitchen and everything else. It may be 6am, but at least I'm not sitting here bored~
