It's Going to be a While

I downloaded season 13 of Pokemon last night. Normally I would have patiently waited for a torrent comprised of AVI files to be released, but the only one I could find contained one AVI file, and the rest were MKV. Thankfully I am able to convert them now, at least, but the one I've put through AllToAVI thus far today took about an hour and a half to fully process, meaning there are still 32 to go. 1.5 × 32 is 48, so that makes what, approximately two days to convert all of them? Again, I wouldn't even bother if I didn't want the file formats to be consistent, and I still have the originals in case something goes awry, but hopefully things work properly the first time. And on the same note, I think I might just donate $10 or $20 to the person who made the program. It does exactly what I need it to, and that deserves some form of thanks. I first need to see what my pay this week is though. I'd like at least $100 to be tucked away for next month, and need another hundred or so to put me back up over my minimum, followed by an as-yet unspecified amount for Mother's Day, and yeah. I need to confer with Dad, Naomi, and Adam when he gets home first though, just to see if they have any plans in mind, and if not, to get suggestions.

On roughly the same note, I'm thinking about leaving for work half an hour early tonight to go against something I said before, and to check in on things at Food Basics. Towards going back on what I said before, I would really like just candies from 7-11. Something to look forward to having when I get home from work, and as for Food Basics, I want to get ahead of myself and check to make sure they have everything that I will need next month. My grocery list is quite extensive, and at the moment, looks something like this:

For Cake #1 and #2]
Devil's food cake mix (×2)
Carton of eggs
Vegetable oil
Sweetened condensed milk
Caramel syrup
Cool Whip
Maraschino cherries

For Cake #3]
Large carton of whipping cream
Small carton of whipping cream
White sugar
Vanilla extract (×2)
Bar of dark chocolate

For Cookies]
Brown sugar (×2)
White sugar (same as above)
Margarine (×2)
Carton of eggs (same as above)
Vanilla extract (same as above)
Flour
Baking soda
Salt (maybe)
Oatmeal (×2)
Milk Chocolate chips
Large bag of peanut butter M&Ms
Cocoa
Milk
Peanut butter

Miscellaneous]
Cheese
Deli meat
Flatbread
Apple (×4)
Brown sugar (same as above)
Flour (same as above)
Oatmeal (same as above)
Margarine (same as above)
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Shortening

Or, condensed into one contiguous list:

Devil's food cake mix (×2)
Carton of eggs
Vegetable oil
Sweetened condensed milk
Caramel syrup
Cool Whip
Maraschino cherries
Large carton of whipping cream
Small carton of whipping cream
White sugar
Vanilla extract (×2)
Bar of dark chocolate
Brown sugar (×2)
Margarine (×2)
Flour
Baking soda
Salt (maybe)
Oatmeal (×2)
Milk chocolate chips
Large bag of peanut butter M&Ms
Cocoa
Milk
Peanut butter
Cheese
Deli meat
Flatbread

Shortening

Plus other things from Dollarama there to snack on, but I couldn't say exactly what I'll buy from there yet. Now that I've written that list out though, I feel confident that they (Food Basics) have everything up there. Shortening is the only one I'm not certain about, but I can't see them not carrying that, so yeah. Another thing I should mention about that list though is that I plan to buy some of the heavier / more awkward things beforehand. Preferably white sugar, brown sugar, flour, and oatmeal. Last time, I came home with about half the stuff on that list up there, and nobody on the train said a word to me, so maybe next time I can bring stuff there, but not have quite so much to carry onto the train and take back home with me.

Switching over to a completely different topic now, it's been a while since I've had the chance to say this, but I like figuring out how to do things for which no directions are available. As mentioned yesterday, I've switched over to Palemoon, and am satisfied enough with things that I could uninstall Firefox and free up a little bit of space, if it weren't for wanting to make a final, proper backup of things instead of just copying my profile folder to the desktop, renaming it to the current date, and filing it away in my reinstall partition and on whichever external drive the "Fresh Restart" folder is on. I mean doing what I haven't done since I used Firefox 2 - downloading the XPI / installation files for all of the extensions I use, and commenting their files / adding notes as necessary so I know what I need to tweak and where that attribute (or those attributes) can be found in the future. Such as TreeStyleTab's tab color settings. There's some overlap between the square.css file and userChrome.css, and I haven't yet figured out what takes precedence. Most likely userChrome.css, but that's just one of those things that I'll need to work out and make note of to avoid confusion in the future. That aside, the only downside of using Palemoon is that I'm using the portable version so everything is nicely contained in one folder, but the program not actually being installed prevents me from setting it as the default browser in Windows. At least as yet. Maybe in a couple days I'll have directions on how to tweak that, but in the meantime, I set Google Chrome as my default browser, and yesterday night was looking for a way to make it always load in incognito mode. For example, I wanted clicking a "Visit website" link in a program to open that page in Google Chrome, but in incognito mode so nothing would be cached, but there was no way to specify that exactly, so it always opened in normal mode, and I couldn't find directions anywhere on how to change that. The closest I came was this page, which the directions on probably do work quite well if you're using Windows XP, but as I'm using Windows 7, I was out of luck. Until opening regedit and searching for "chrome" several times. In so doing I managed to find a solution to my problem, and for anybody else who may want to do the same, the answer can be found in the cut below.

The relevant registry keys are

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\chrome.exe\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ChromeHTML\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ftp\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command

In each of those, change the "(Default)" string from

"C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" -- "%1"

to

"C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --incognito "%1"

With the usual disclaimer to say that editing the registry can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, so be sure to make a backup ("File", "Export...", "All" in the "Export range" area) before changing anything.

Also, in case it is of importance to anybody, my understanding of what those keys control is as follows:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\chrome.exe\shell\open\command

Opening a file not currently associated with Google Chrome in that browser will open the file in incognito mode.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ChromeHTML\shell\open\command

Not sure. Might be the same as above, might not.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ftp\shell\open\command

When a program attempts to open a URL beginning with ftp://, it will be opened in Google Chrome's incognito mode.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command

When a program attempts to open a URL beginning with http://, it will be opened in Google Chrome's incognito mode.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command

When a program attempts to open a URL beginning with https://, it will be opened in Google Chrome's incognito mode.

Corrections and such are welcome, of course, but for the moment I don't expect to get any of those.

As for usual things again now, I think I've said pretty much everything for this afternoon. As such, I will... start backing up Firefox things with my remaining 20 minutes. Need something to do, and that should keep me busy for a little while yet <3
