It's Been a Fun Day

Let's compare my birthday this year to the way things went last year. At this time back in 2011, I was in Toronto, probably just getting home from having gone out for supper with Dan, Chris, and Xion. I remember I took the last train, and it didn't arrive 'til almost 10pm, so that seems about right. Otherwise, the rest of the day was spent doing normal things at home, and then I had supper (quiche) with Mom and Dad, who wished me a happy birthday, and that was that. I think Adam and Naomi were both out. Then there's this year, where things haven't really been any more focused toward doing things at home, but I think I enjoyed myself just as much, if not a little bit more. It'd take too long to try to write proper paragraphs about exactly what happened though, so per usual, I'll resort to a point-form list, ordered chronologically:

12:00pm - 12:30pm] Woke up, and immediately went downstairs to ask Mom if I could get a ride to Heart and Stroke, in hopes of getting my share of the Christmas social thing out of the way, and having more time to work on assigning kits to canvassers. After that, I talked to Dan for a bit, telling him my initial plans of waking up and going directly to the office weren't going to happen after all, and then got ready to leave a couple minutes before 12:30
12:30pm - 2:00pm] Got a ride to Heart and Stroke as previously noted, and sat at the big boardroom table with everybody else, eating snacks. There were cheeses and meats, a shrimp plate, fruits and dip, several plates of baked goods, including banana bread, and juice that tasted quite strongly of banana. I ate too much right away, leading to having a sore stomach, but once that passed, I ate some more, and then started feeling bored, because I wanted to go get some work done. Michele told everybody that it was my birthday, so they all sang happy birthday, halfway through which she asked if it was actually my birthday, met by my sarcastic response of "I'll wait until you've finished singing to tell you". After that 2:00 came, and I was able to do get onto what I wanted to do with the afternoon. At some point before I started to work though, Michele observed that neither Linda nor Tryphena were present, which I took to mean I would be working on my own. She confirmed that, then went on to say that she was concerned, because she hadn't heard from either of them about not being in, and apparently Linda left yesterday in somewhat of a poor state
2:00pm - 5:00pm] Work. Lots and lots of work. I felt like I was going kind of slowly at the start, but once I got into things again, oh, what I was able to accomplish. I can't quite use the word "singlehandedly" here, because I wasn't the only one working on assigning kits (and also used two hands, at that), but I think I did as much work as the other three people who were working on the same thing did combined. Hell, I was responsible for finishing the last two routes. I may have had to stay an hour later (until 5), but I was quite willing to do so, and being personally thanked by Michele on the way home made it all worth it. I may not have been able to shut up about not using one of the scanners when Michele repeatedly told people I was scanning, but I did it. Not all of it, but hopefully the majority. Oh, and also just before I started working, I won a poinsettia. Yes. There were three on the table, and everybody had to write their name down for a drawing that would be held later. Like I need a flower...
5:00pm - 5:20pm] Got a ride home from Michele, and waited there for about 20 minutes while she went to pick up Yvonne. It was a long enough wait that I had time to put the above-mentioned poinsettia in the kitchen, tell Mom i was there, and log onto the computer downstairs and open DJMAX Trilogy, but before I actually launched the game, I noticed Trish had sent Adam a couple messages on MSN (which he wouldn't have received if I hadn't turned the computer on), asking if he was there because she saw him sign on, and getting annoyed when he didn't respond. I sent her two messages to say "He's not here" and "I'm just using this computer to play DJMAX Trilogy". She responded with "haha" and "okay", and so far as I know, that was that. Michele came back after I played a couple songs, so I went out and got back into her truck, and off we went.
5:20 - 6:00pm] Just driving out to Country View. Nothing really remarkable, although I noticed there were presents in the back seat, and got somewhat excited about being able to help carry those in
6:00pm - 8:00pm] The Christmas party happened. The meal was alright (Country View's buffet is unremarkable), but seeing everybody together was something. Michele started drinking right away, and being the one who gave both Yvonne and I a ride there, we were kind of concerned about getting back home. Lots of nasty stuff was said about Natasha (stuff that I can understand if it's true, because it involves unrealistic expectations being set). I think everybody sang happy birthday for me again. We all had to write our names as well as how long we'd been volunteering on a piece of paper, because Michele didn't have enough money to get presents for everybody, and as such wanted them to be prizes for winners of a draw instead. I didn't win anything (fortunately, because the things she was giving out seemed kind of... tacky (Christmas-themed figurines, same as with years past)), but more interestingly could not remember how long I've been volunteering there for. Michele was confident I've been there at least ten years, which is... a long bloody time. I haven't even been at work for ten years. Maybe the reason it doesn't feel as long is because of the change in office. Even then, I don't think I was there for that long, but... I digress. The old office was pretty tacky itself (mostly blue, except for the floor), so I don't miss it. I couldn't really say whether or not I'm glad I went this year either. True to her word, Michele said absolutely nothing like the comment Janice made at the last Christmas party I went to, and I did enjoy myself, but that's about it. I suppose what really counts / makes the difference is that if I had the night to go through over again, I'd have still gone there, because it was something more to do.
8:00pm - 8:30pm] Michele drove us back to Chatham. Just as I was getting out of her vehicle, I asked when she wanted me to email her next, and I'm pretty sure she said January, so that's not bad. Same as before, three days of focused work in exchange for another several weeks off? I'm okay with that.
8:30pm - 9:30pm] Mom and I went out almost exactly the way I'd just been taken home, to go to Real Canadian Superstore. She wanted to get some more groceries there, and I had a birthday cereal to pick out, along with that blanket for Manoah and pillow for myself to look for at Walmart (I decided to look for / buy them tonight), but things didn't go exactly as planned. Mom was able to get everything she wanted, while I came away with the same type of cereal I got for my birthday last near, and neither a blanket nor pillow, because I couldn't find them. They just were not there, but I suppose that's still good, in a way. It shows Walmart changes what's on display at least once a week, so hopefully by the next time I go there, the blankets and pillows are back, and I can grab one of each. At any rate, following getting things out there, we came back home, and that's about where I am now.

Since then, I talked to Dan a bit more, and directly asked him to wish me a happy birthday, because he still hadn't (he did, observing that he asked about it, but didn't say anything), then he said he had company over, and thus couldn't really talk, so I'm pretty well on my own for the rest of the night. I received a touching email from Squeeze earlier, which was nothing more than Happy Birthday (the song) and "Hope you're having a great birthday! ^^", which I really like(d). I've wanted before for friends to wish me a happy birthday on my birthday, but it never happened, unless I mentioned it myself. To be fair, I did tell Squeeze my birthday was coming up in one of our past emails, but I said nothing about it today, so... thanks again, if you're reading this, and otherwise, yay <3 Things at home have been mostly nonexistent - Mom and Adam sang happy birthday earlier, and I was presented with a card and Gravity Rush. Other plans (supper, I presume) are being saved for next Thursday, which I feel will work out perfectly. We can get back to my birthday then, and I'll also have been paid that morning, so I can plan to go out to Walmart and Real Canadian Superstore around 3, then to McDonalds on the way home. There is a full week during which something could happen to prevent / impede that, but for now, those are most definitely my plans. I could still go out there this coming Saturday, and maybe after work on Monday as well, but I don't have the money for that yet. I really can't even justify going to Sobeys later (I think I mentioned that above), but want to, if only just... for the sake of doing one last special thing with the night. I have some cleaning up to do here first though (leftovers from other special things I was doing earlier), so maybe I'll be able to think of something specific to get while I'm working on that. If not, I suppose a couple more yogurt bowls would suffice. Three of those would give me something to look forward to having after work the next three nights, and still leave me with ~$30 to spend. Then again, I was also thinking earlier that I could use tonight to wrap more Christmas presents. Could I do both? Yes, but I should start with cleaning up. The rest will depend on how much time I have afterward~
